Blogging is an important part of your marketing strategy as it can be used to attract customers, aid in sales, drive traffic to your site, and much more. However, using a good blogging platform is an essential part of producing good blogs. If you cannot easily perform tasks in your platform, such as view analytics, you will not be getting the most out of your blogs. Our answer to this problem? Hubspot.
Previously, we listed the elements that make up a good blog. However, with many blogging platforms, it is difficult to create all of these elements within the one platform. We know that blogging takes time both per post and post frequency, so we advocate for using platforms that save you as much time as possible.
As the age old saying goes, time is money, so we like to be sure we are using our time in the best way possible. When it comes to blogging, the best way to spend our time is by blogging with Hubspot’s blogging platform.
This post is by no means an advertisement. We just wanted to share with you our findings after having tested a number of other blogging platforms. These are our reasons:
Analytics & Data
When you are producing blog articles, you need to know how they’re performing. Blog performance helps you evaluate how your posts are doing and lets you know if there are things you need to change. Hubspot’s analytic reports are produced both for each blog article and your blog as a whole, so you never have to dig through your own website analytics to see how your posts are performing.
Some of the options for analytics include:
- Blog Views (by post and by your blog as a whole)
- Top Posts by Views, Click-throughs, and/or Conversions
- Post Engagement
- Traffic Sources
These analytics provide you with informational data you can then use to further develop your blogging and marketing strategy. You can see exactly where your blog traffic is originating (organic search, email marketing, paid search, social media, etc.) and learn which channels draw the most traffic back to your blogs.
You can figure out which subjects perform better in views, clicks, or conversions. You can determine best times of day to post, best blog formatting, best CTAs, and more just from the availability of these analytics and data on your blog.
Keywords & Optimization
Within the Hubspot blogging platform, there are tools built in to help ensure your posts are optimized for your target keywords and other areas of enhancement. After creating your posts, you can enter in your target keyword and Hubspot will ensure your post is optimized to rank for that keyword.
If you are missing the keyword in areas such as your title, headers, or your meta description, Hubspot will notify you in their optimization tool so you can fix it before you post your blog.
Once you blog has been posted, there is a second checklist for optimization. This list lets you know if your post is ranking for your targeted keyword, if you have any internal links or inbound links to your post, and reviews the initial optimization checklist.
This checklist is a simple, built-in way to ensure your blogs are optimized to the fullest extent. Hubspot provides you with a second pair of eyes right in its blogging platform, which is beneficial to you and your blogging team.
Another great benefit provided by the Hubspot blogging platform is the option to organize all your blogs by topic and pillar pages. As we’ve mentioned before, SEO is changing towards a more content-based system than keyword-based. Because of this, you need to format your blog posts based on topic clusters.
With topic clusters, you create a pillar page of a particular topic that gives a brief overview of a subject. You then have leaf topics that branch off of that page to go more in depth on the same subject.
As an example, one of our topic clusters is based on blogging. We have a pillar page on how to start a blog for your company that gives a large overview and leaf pages linked that delve deeper into specific subtopics.
To keep all these pages in order and remember which pages link to other pages, we would need to create some kind of complicated spreadsheet to track the links. Instead of wasting time creating and updating that sheet, Hubspot has built in an organizational chart.
This is our topic cluster for blogging. It shows our pillar page and all the topics that leaf off of the pillar page. It also lets you know if the leaf pages are linked back to the pillar page.
When you click on each leaf page, it lets you know which other pages it links too and gives suggestions on other relevant internal links. Creating and updating a spreadsheet to track all of this would take a huge amount of time and effort. Hubspot makes it easy by having a tracker built right in.
The actual blog creation tool is a very important part of blogging. However, in the Hubspot tool, blog creation is very simple and easy to learn. There are options for every important task you would need to complete when publishing a blog, including:
- Linking Text to Other Blogs or Outside Sources
- Adding Images
- Call-to-Action Buttons
- Text Size and Style
- Headers and Titles
- Author Profiles
- Featured Photo Uploads and Editing
- Category Tags and Meta Description
As we mentioned before, there is also a tool that scans your post before you publish to ensure it is optimized according to the keyword you want to rank for. It suggests other blogs to link to in the post and lets you know if there are any other opportunities for optimization in the post before it is published.
Social media integration is also a part of Hubspot’s blogging platform. You can set your post to publish automatically to Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn and even write a social blurb to post with the link to the blog right from the blog creation tool.
This makes it extremely easy to post and share you blogs on you social platforms, which is a huge way to attract readers and visitors with the hopes of them becoming customers.
