How to Create SEO Optimized Content

Posted by Amy Silberman on Oct 6, 2017 2:38:03 PM

In the new age of SEO, content matters above all. While the focus for SEO and website ranking used to be how many times you could mention your keywords, it is now about how your valuable your content appears to search engines. One of the best ways to increase your website ranking is through your blog posts and other content. These offerings are a great way to provide valuable information to your customers and because of this, also a great way to increase your website ranking through SEO optimization.

When creating a blog or other content offer, you should first be focused on your buyer persona. Is your topic relevant to them? Will they be interested in reading the blog or content offer? Will they want to learn more, click on more links, or share with colleagues? Creating content that answers questions and provides valuable information should be your first priority.

Once you have determined your content topic, you can then begin to optimize it for SEO. Because of how Google and other search engines rank websites, valuable content is much more important than keywords. However, once you have determined your topic, you can then work your keywords and other SEO optimization techniques in naturally to help your blogs and your website rank higher.

Ways to Make Your Content Searchable

Work Keywords in Naturally to Improve SEO Optimization

As the trend towards content over keywords continues, you can actually be penalized on your ranking for using too many keywords in your content. Since keyword stuffing is a thing of the past, you must find a way to work them into your content naturally.

For example, in this post, if we were trying to rank for SEO optimization, we would not want to put it in every sentence or section. It is included in the title, in a header, in our meta description, and scattered throughout the post; however, we make it a point to focus more on the content of the post than saying our keyword over and over.

Voice Search Matters, So Type How You Speak

Voice assistants like Siri and Alexa are becoming more and more prominent. In fact, studies show that over half of U.S. teens and 41% of U.S. adults use voice search on a daily basis. In the photo below, which just shows data about Alexa, you can see that these devices are continuing to grow.

This matters to your business because as these assistants grow, the way people search for things will change. Instead of short two or three word searches, people are now asking full questions to their voice assistants. As voice search continues to grow, you will need to optimize your post titles and content titles to match the cadence of speech.

After you have chosen a topic, try to think about the question your topic answers. Ask yourself if this is a question your target audience would be searching for. By optimizing your post titles to answer questions people are searching for, you have a better chance of being seen on search engines. This will increase page traffic, which will help to increase your overall site ranking.

Share Your Posts to Social

One of the factors that contributes to your site ranking is traffic from different sources. As anyone can tell you, social media and other mobile applications play a huge role in the day to day life of people. As you can see by this chart below, people spend the majority of their time on their phone within apps as opposed to browsing the Internet.

Social media platforms take up a large amount of the time people spend on their phones. Because of this, people are turning to social media more often for their search queries. The best way to have your content discovered on social media through these search queries is to post and share your content on social media.

By creating valuable content and posting it to your social accounts, you are allowing yourself another avenue of generating traffic to your site, which will help boost your SEO ranking.

Conclusion

SEO is a science that is constantly changing. The best way to be sure your content is optimized for SEO is to not specifically TRY to optimize it for SEO. While this may seem counterintuitive, it is in your best interest to create natural and valuable content that answers questions your target audience may have.

After you have created this content, you can ensure it has targeted keywords and other search techniques; however, these should not be your main focus when creating the initial content.
