We all know that images are an essential piece of any website. Whether it be your site itself, a blog, or a landing page, images allow you to put a picture behind the words and provide your readers with an engaging visual element that will allow your page to stand out. Sometimes, your photos or stock pictures may not be everything you hoped and you’ll need to do a little editing. HubSpot’s photo editor allows you to perform basic tasks like cropping, adding text elements, and simple color correction right in your own portal!
We understand that not everyone is a skilled graphic designer and may not have impeccable Photoshop skills. However, thanks to HubSpot, that won’t stop you from using photos on your website or blogs that may need a little adjustment before they’re ready to post.
We’ve found that the editor in HubSpot allows us to perform many basic editing tasks so we can ensure the photos we add to our page are sized correctly, edited nicely, and optimized for SEO. While this won’t take the place of a good photographer or designer, this will work if you need to quickly edit a photo for your site.
How to Get to the Editor
To edit your photos, you simply upload them to your HubSpot portal as usual. This can be done in your File Manager or directly through the blog or landing page editor.
Once you have uploaded the photo, you can access it in the Images section. Once you are there, instead of clicking on the photo to insert it into your content, click on the small 'i' icon in the corner of the image thumbnail
This will open up the details of the image. You can then click the button at the bottom that says ‘Edit’ which will open up the HubSpot photo editor.
Once you are there, you can then see all the options available for you to edit your photo right in the HubSpot portal.
How to Use the Editor
Once you have opened the editor, you can see all the options available to you.
These options include:
All of these options provide you with basic tools to enhance your photos and make them stand out on your website or blog posts.
A few specific tools to note include the crop tool. This tool not only allows you to crop a custom size, but it also has preset sizes for Twitter images, Facebook images, or square images for Instagram.
It also has preset ratios that you can set for other uses and is extremely useful if you are trying to fit a photo into a certain area or size.
Another few tools that are especially useful are the text and the stickers tool. These both allow you to personalize your photos in a way that is special to your site, blog or email. Personalization will help your photos or graphs stand out and allow you to engage with your visitors and readers.
Why Should I Optimize Images for SEO?
One of the main reasons to edit your photos is so they will be optimized for SEO. For example, photos that are too large for a page can cause pages to load slower or cause your emails to be flagged as spam.
Images also increase page engagement which causes visitors to remain on the page longer. This will increase your time on page rank which plays into your SEO ranking. Adding text or stickers to photos will allow you to add captions or notes to an image to further increase engagement.
The editor will also let you add alt text descriptions to each image, which will help Google and other search engines categorize each image according to what it contains. The alt text is also used to describe images to visitors who may not be able to see the image either due to a technical issue or a visual impairment.
By making sure your images are properly described and formatted, you will be able to have photos on your site, blogs, and emails that are enhance the text on the page and are engaging for your visitors. All of this optimization will increase your search engine rank and your SEO status.
We’ve all experienced the frustrations of finding the perfect image for your content, but it just needs a few adjustments. Maybe it is too large or the color is off. Maybe you would like to add some text or simply clean it up a little bit.
Having images that are sized correctly and are edited well are important not only for page engagement but also for load times and SEO optimization. The HubSpot photo editor allows you to accomplish basic editing and resizing tasks right in your own portal, which can save you time and resources! Who doesn’t love that?
